Also known as the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Route, the highway has long been a preferred route for Treasure Valley residents to access their favorite high country recreational haunts.

by June Sparks, Idaho Transportation Department BOISE -- Commuters and outdoor recreationists aren't the only ones who traverse Idaho 21 along what is known as the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Route. Each year, large numbers of deer and elk are killed as they attempt to cross the highway.

During winter, the WMA functions at its "highest and best use," providing a place for one of Idaho's migratory mule deer herds to spend the winter in relative comfort. Relatively more comfortable say, than at higher elevations where snow depths are greater, temperatures lower and winter conditions last longer.

by June Sparks, Idaho Transportation Department "Give Deer & Elk a Brake" signs to go up along Idaho 21 Wednesday (Jan. 6) to warn motorists about wildlife/vehicle collisions Boise -- On Wednesday (Jan. 6), Idaho's first wildlife/vehicle collision "tally signs" will go up along Idaho 21 between Lucky Peak Reservoir and Robie Creek at mileposts 10 and 21. The tally signs - featuring the message "Give Deer & Elk a Brake" - will be updated regularly to inform the public about the number of known vehicle-wildlife collisions to date each year on that stretch of roadway.
